The Slovak interior minister Robert Kaliňák has opened the third round of the so called weapons amnesty. The first Slovak weapons amnesty lasted 12 months within the years 2005 and 2006.
Citizens then returned 3490 weapons. During the second round of weapons amnesty, which ended in 2010, Slovaks have returned 4368 weapons and more than 45,000 pieces of ammunition. However, only a small part of the overall weaponry became the states property.
