Farmers in Slovakia have already harvested more than two thirds of cereal grains and 92 percent of rapeseed the Slovak Agricultural and Food Chamber (SPPK) announced on Wednesday.
"When it comes to rapeseed, the yields reach 3.7 tonnes per hectare, which is far more than last year, when the average yield was slightly below 3 tonnes per hectare," said SPPK spokesman Stanislav Nemec. As far as cereal grains (mainly wheat, barley and rye) are concerned, the yields so far have been 10-15 percent higher than last year. Nonetheless, the showers and rains that have appeared in recent days may affect the rest of the harvest and have a negative effect on the yields, cautioned Nemec.
