President approved subsidy for parents in connection with lack of places in kindergartens

Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová signed an amendment to the Education Act, which provides for the introduction of a subsidy to the parents of children who, due to capacity reasons, did not get a place in a public kindergarten (MŠ). TASR was informed about this by the spokesman of the head of state, Martin Strižinec.

The aim of the amendment to the Education Act is to compensate parents, or legal representatives of children, for the costs associated with the impossibility of placing children in a public kindergarten due to capacity reasons. "The proposed law is intended to motivate the state to build a network of kindergartens, support the family and positively influence the challenges associated with demographic development in Slovakia," the authors of the amendment said.

Cost compensation should be implemented in the form of a parental allowance. The legislation also defines the conditions for receiving the allowance. The child's legal representative should be entitled to the subsidy after proving that they unsuccessfully tried to place their child in a public kindergarten.
