Sharing experiences and cooperating on climate change issues is a valuable asset for both Slovakia and the Czech Republic, said caretaker Environment Minister Milan Chrenko after a meeting with his Czech counterpart Petr Hladik on Monday. The meeting focused on the functioning of the Slovak system for the return of used PET bottles and cans, the recovery and resilience plan and, above all, international cooperation in environmental protection.
"The two countries are linked by the fact that they had a similar starting point three decades ago. They were struggling with the legacy of the socialist construction period, when plans were implemented in full, often without regard for the environment," said Chrenko.
Even today, he noted, the two countries share the same challenges of climate change and adaptation. The two ministers also discussed Slovakia's experience with the reform of its national parks, which was launched in the summer of 2022. They also discussed a number of other issues, such as the Czech Presidency of the EU and intergovernmental environmental policy.
