Unemployment drops most sharply in 1.5 years

The share of available jobseekers of working age in the working-age population (WAP) fell to 4.08% in April from 4.29% in March. Unemployment thus fell in April by the most significant amount since October 2021, the Labour, Social Affairs and Family Office (LAFO) reported on Friday. The decline was partly due to changes in the area of activation work.

"At the national level, it fell by 0.21 percentage point month-on-month, in the Košice region even by 58 hundredths of a percent," the ÚPSVR said. Unemployment fell by half a percentage point in the Prešov region and by more than a quarter of a percentage point in the Banská Bystrica region. PDU is the main unemployment indicator used by the Department of Labour, Social Affairs and Family since January this year. The PDU declined in April for the third consecutive month and decreased by up to 72 hundredths of a percentage point year-on-year.
