First draft of government manifesto to be ready next week

The initial draft of the Government Manifesto should be ready next week, Premier Ludovit Odor said in Parliament on Thursday, adding that he would subsequently come to the House to talk about potential support for the manifesto with MPs. The Government Manifesto should be prepared by caretaker ministers. "I tasked ministers with setting three plus three priorities - three short-term (urgent) plus three long-term ones - and then we'll put it in the budget," Odor explained.

Meanwhile, Odor has called on MPs not to approve drafts amounting to hundreds of millions of euros and burdening the state budget. Otherwise, the consequences of such drafts will revert to the next government, he stressed. "I have a kind of feeling that I should have come here today with a calculator, as there are a lot of proposals with huge impact on public finances in the future. It would be good if these proposals, which are being submitted as part of the election campaign with absolutely no coverage in the budget, were not approved. We have the highest deficit in the EU already now and deepening it by another billion will increase the need to consolidate in the future," stated Odor.
