President to attend council of Europe summit in Iceland

President Zuzana Caputova departed for Iceland on Tuesday morning, where she'll attend a meeting of the leaders of the countries belonging to the Council of Europe (CoE). The venue of the summit will be the capital Reykjavik. Last November, Iceland took over the rotating presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from Ireland. The summit is due to begin early on Tuesday evening, and its programme will last until Wednesday (May 17). In addition to the Slovak President, leaders of the other 45 member countries will also take part in the summit to discuss human rights and democracy, which, according to the Icelandic presidency, are currently facing new threats. They are also set to debate further support for Ukraine. This is the fourth summit of this organisation since the Council of Europe was set up in 1949. The previous one was hosted by Poland in 2005.
