Slovakia's industrial production helped by automotive industry

Slovakia's industrial production saw year-on-year growth of 2.5 percent in March 2023, and, after seasonal adjustments, month-on-month growth of 1.6 percent, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday. The y-o-y growth was driven mainly by the production of transport vehicles (15.6 percent), but a cumulative drop in most of the 15 monitored industrial categories mitigated its effect. Overall growth was also fuelled to a pronounced extent by the production of metal and metal structures (4.9 percent). A favourable 'base' effect significantly contributed to industry's return to year-on-year growth, which was mainly reflected in the automotive industry, along with the energy and petrochemical industries, stated UniCredit Bank analyst Lubomir Korsnak in his comments on industrial output data for March. "Conversely, the production of consumer electronics has had to deal with problems for several months. Producers of other electrical appliances and food producers also had a weaker month in March," said Korsnak.
