From September 2025, Slovakia will introduce a legal entitlement to kindergarten from the age of three. The aim is to facilitate access, particularly for children from marginalised Roma communities and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. This is the result of an amendment to the Education Act approved by the National Council of the Slovak Republic on Tuesday. The amendment meets some of the objectives of the Recovery Plan. The new legislation also includes a definition of segregation and the introduction of a new position in schools, that of a social worker.
