Polish sheep shearer Krisztian Jarosz won the 10th International Championship of Slovakia in sheep shearing that was held in Liptovska Luzna on Saturday, 26th July, with 13 competitors from Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland taking part in the competition.
Slovaks, Peter Kučera of Valaská and last year's winner Igor Fongus of Liptovské Revúce placed second and third, moreover Peter Kučera broke the Slovak record in the speed of sheep shearing. The head of the Slovak Union of Sheep and Goat Breeders Slavomír Reľovský noted that after a period of some decline, the profession of sheep shearing is experiencing somewhat of a revival. “Aside from the fact that sheep need to be sheared we're noticing an increasing demand for products made of high-quality sheep wool. We'd need more young sheep shearers,” said Reľovský.
