Journalism Award granted to Vladimir Kara-Murza and 11 Slovak media outlets

The winners of the 19th annual Journalism Awards were announced by the Open Society Foundation on May 3 evening, with 11 editorial rooms being decorated. An Open Society Foundation Award was also given to Russian journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, which was a precedent, as in the past the prize had always gone to Slovak journalists. The decision was taken by the Journalistic Prize Council with the explanation that the "year 2022 has changed everything, and we are responding to this new state of affairs. All the more so, as May 3 is not only the Slovak but also the World Freedom of the Press day". In this way, the council wants to send a signal to the world in general and Russia in particular. A total of 480 works entered the competition, evaluated by 13 panels of judges. This year's competition was dominated by pieces with topics such as the war in Ukraine, but also minorities, gender inequality and the LGBTI+ community.
