At its session on Wednesday, the interim government okayed the launch of a public procurement for constructing a new parking area for transport planes at the military airbase in Sliac, with the projected sum expected to be co-financed from NATO resources.
The parking area should include two stands for tactical transport aircraft. The cost of its construction is estimated at €6.5 million.
"The aim of the proposed investment is to create a stand between taxiways G and H in front of the Vitkovice hangar, with a direct connection to taxiway L, which will enable manoeuvring, parking and cargo handling for two tactical transport aircraft," said the Defence Ministry, which submitted the respective proposal. The investment is in line with other projects planned at Sliac airbase.
The project should be implemented based on the needs of NATO as a project of the NATO Security Investment Programme (NSIP). The construction might be implemented between 2023-2024. The exact date and cost will be announced following the conclusion of the public procurement.
