Italian president visiting Slovakia

Slovak president Zuzana Caputova and her Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella visited together on Wednesday the Malacky-Kuchyna military base, where 145 Italian soldiers have been stationed as part of NATO’s forward presence. The Italian anti-air SAMP/T Mamba defence system is also based there. Both heads of state perceive the presence of Italian soldiers in Slovakia as a display of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. According to Mattarella, Slovakia and Italy are enjoying friendship and cooperation, stemming also from both countries' EU and NATO memberships. He added that the Russian aggression in Ukraine brought new challenges and underlined the need to protect freedom of all countries and nations.
