Slovakia's general government deficit in 2022 halved in yearly terms to reach €2.23 billion, which constituted 2.04 % of GDP, with total public debt amounting to €63.38 billion or 57.8 % of GDP by the end of the year, the Statistics Office has reported. "The absolute majority of last year's deficit was caused by the central state administration as its management ended with a deficit of €1.95 billion," the Statistics office noted. In reaction to the report, the interim Prime Minister Eduard Heger noted on Thursday, that the Slovak Republic met the Maastricht fiscal criteria in 2022. The Maastricht fiscal architecture relies on limits on debt and the general government deficit. The reference values used are 3% for the deficit and 60% for the debt, both in terms of GDP.
