Slovakia temporarily suspends imports of Ukrainian grain

Slovakia will temporarily suspend imports of grain and other selected products from Ukraine, the Press and Information Department of the Government Office announced on Monday. The decision was made after numerous countries banned imports of these items from Slovakia’s neighbour due to the case of contaminated wheat. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said on Sunday that it had exhausted all legal and competence possibilities to regulate imports from Ukraine while maintaining the solidarity corridors, which were originally intended for the export of grain to third countries. However, large quantities of grain are ending up in European warehouses, destabilising the market in EU member states.
