Union representatives meet President

Drafts tabled by MPs should be assessed in an inter-ministerial comments procedure, Labour Unions Confederation (KOZ) President Monika Uhlerova said following her meeting with President Zuzana Caputova on Thursday. The goal of this proposal is to prevent low-quality, unfeasible and populist drafts and, at the same time, to strengthen dialogue with social partners, including trade unions, when pushing through legislative intentions.

"We're suggesting a very ambitious proposal that will also require a change in the legislation, and that proposal consists in all parliamentary drafts going through inter-ministerial comments proceedings. Just as government proposals are sent to the inter-ministerial comments procedure, in this way parliamentary proposals would also be 'run' through the legislative and comments process," said Uhlerova, adding that the president agrees with this proposal as this would, according to her, make the legislative process more transparent.

Uhlerova went on to say that KOZ considers it to be essential for high-quality social dialogue to work in Slovakia in order to maintain social reconciliation. This should be covered by the tripartite but also at the parliamentary level by the comments of social partners, including trade unions and employers.
