The authorities in Slovakia have detected wheat imported from Ukraine containing elevated levels of pesticide residues. Interim Agriculture Minister Samuel Vlcan reported this on Wednesday, adding that the results of an analysis determining the possible impacts on human health should be announced by the end of this week. As early as last July, he ordered more frequent checks of imported Ukrainian grain. A rather large sample of Ukrainian grain was collected, and three independent, accredited laboratories have confirmed increased levels of pesticide residues in it. As a precautionary and preventive measure, the entire batch in question has been seized, said the minister. According to him, the batch contains 1,500 tonnes of wheat.
