April 13 marks the Day of the Unjustly Prosecuted. This is since on the night of 13-14 April 1950, members of the National Security Corps, State Security, the army and the People's Militia stormed the men's monasteries across Czechoslovakia, at that time already 2 years under the communist regime. Known as Akcia K (Operation K), it saw the mass incarceration of more than 2,300 monks and was part of a wide reaching mission to curb the power of the Church in the country. Many of the victims would end up serving long sentences, or were used as forced labour. On Thursday morning, survivors of the tragedy were remembered at a memorial service in the town of Partizánske.
