Greenpeace Continues Protest against New LNG Terminal in Bratislava River Port

Greenpeace Slovakia continues to oppose a planned LNG terminal construction project in Bratislava's river port, the head of the organisation Katarina Jurikova has told TASR, adding that Greenpeace will do everything possible to stop this project. "This plan is in direct contradiction with the aim of the Paris Agreement, to which Slovakia has also committed itself. We have seven years to cut emissions by half if we want to preserve global warming at 1.5 degrees [Celsius]," noted Jurikova. In her opinion, all investment in and building of new fossil fuel infrastructure must stop. The Environment Ministry issued its final opinion on the project within the Environmental Impact Assessment process only recently, recommending that construction should take place. According to the ministry, negative environmental impacts in this case can be remedied by certain measures. The terminal is to be located in Bratislava's river port, with the proposed area covering 5,500 square metres.
