Slovakia has enough gas stored in its reservoirs to last the next heating season and the reservoirs are filled even 5 percent above the EU's average volume at the moment, interim Economy Minister Karel Hirman and general director of the SPP gas utility Miroslav Kulla reported at a joint press conference on Tuesday.
"We can state with certainty already today that we've got a very solid, sufficient gas reserves for the next heating season," said Hirman.
"We've acquired an excellent springboard position, with above-average gas volumes in the reservoirs. The volume equals about 55 percent in the EU countries, but it's 60 percent in Slovakia. At the end of winter, we've got the same amount of gas we normally have before the start of another winter," added Kulla, pointing to new contracts that the SPP signed with international gas suppliers in order to diversify the supplies.
The supplies of liquified gas from various markets and terminals in Europe are becoming part and parcel of SPP business portfolio. Aside from the still functioning gas delivery route via Ukraine, the SPP orders gas for its customers also via the Northern Sea and Western and Southern Europe.
