Interim Interior Minister Roman Mikulec insists that he received confidential information in full compliance with the law, whereas National Security Authority (NBU) chair Roman Konecny says that the law was violated.
Juraj Krupa, who chairs the House Security and Defence Committee, concedes that there might be an ambiguity in the law and the Interior Minister should resolve the case by applying for a security clearance, TASR learnt after the committee session on Tuesday.
According to the NBU director, the minister lacked a certificate for getting access to confidential information from the EU and NATO environment.
Mikulec maintains that he hasn't broken the law. "We concurred that the legislation in Slovakia is not perfect. There's gold-plating in it, needless and unnecessary features not required by either NATO or the EU," he said, adding that none of his predecessors had such a certificate either. Krupa added that the certificate prerequisite exists only at the national level and conceded that it's also a matter of interpretation of the law.
