Presidents from the Visegrad Four countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) as well as from Bulgaria, Romania and three Baltic States, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia, concurred at their Tuesday summit held in Warsaw on the need to bolster military infrastructure in Eastern Europe.
The meeting also presented an opportunity to boost co-operation within the region in reaction to the most serious threat to security and stability in Europe since the Cold War. The main purpose of the talks, convened at the initiative of Poland, was to co-ordinate stances before the NATO summit, set for September 2014. Also the future of NATO relations with Russia and the bolstering of defense funding were broached at the meeting. The presidents sent their sympathies to victims of the Malaysian Flight 17 downed in eastern Ukraine.
