I consider local government to be a key element for the functioning of our state; the crises were a very clear proof of this, President Zuzana Caputova said following her meeting on Thursday with mayors of Bardejov district, eastern Slovakia. Their talks included topics such as the energy crisis and the energy cost compensation scheme. When asked what would help the development of eastern Slovakia, President responded that infrastructure and the completion of road connection projects are often mentioned at meetings. "Every government has it on its agenda but we aren't very successful in building motorways and road connections. As I'm specifically in Bardejov, the vice-mayor informed me that the funds that flowed here every year for the reconstruction of monuments had recently been stopped. It's probably a great pity because it's obvious in this town that the funds were used effectively," added Caputova.
