One person charged with murder of Daniel Tupy

The National Crime Agency (NAKA) has charged a person named only as A.P. with the murder of student Daniel Tupy in 2005, the police have posted on a social network. "The charged person has been detained, and an investigator is currently carrying out procedural steps with him," stated the police, adding that further procedures will be decided as soon as necessary work is completed. Police Corps President Stefan Hamran on Thursday announced that the police had detained ten people in the case of Daniel Tupy's murder so far, releasing eight of them in the meantime.

Daniel Tupy was murdered in the park on Tyrsovo Square in Bratislava on the evening of November 4, 2005, sustaining eight stab wounds. The crime provoked many reactions condemning violence and manifestations of neo-Nazism. According to some media reports, the police at the time treated the murder as a case related to the underworld. A total of five individuals were initially charged in the case, with a defendant identified only as Richard H. facing 15 years in prison. They were acquitted of the charges by Bratislava I District court in June 2009, however.
