Thirty years of bilateral relations between Slovakia and the USA commemorated by a travelling exhibition opened on Thursday in Bratislava. It is dedicated to 30 figures from Slovak-American relations. As US Ambassador to Slovakia Gautam Rana stated, Slovak immigrants have been an inseparable part of the development of the United States since the mid-19th century. The exhibition commemorates some of the personalities with achievements in politics, diplomacy, science, art and sports highlighting the enduring ties between the two countries. It can be seen in Bratislava until April 20. Later, it will move to other towns in Slovakia.
The list of 30 historical and also contemporary figures of Slovak-American relations was compiled by the US Embassy together with the director of the Historical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slavomir Michalek. Visitors can learn, among others, about artist Moritz Fuerst, a Jewish medallist from Pezinok, Bratislava region, who created portraits of four American presidents; US Air Force Colonel Eva Strelka Jenkins, originally from Bratislava, who commands a thousand employees; Steve Ditko, a cartoonist of Slovak origin, who designed Spiderman and Doctor Strange.
