Trade unionists protested on Thursday in front of the Slovnaft oil refinery over insufficient salary raises. A few hundred protesters gathered in front of the refinery headquarters. "The employer submitted a proposal that was presented as final," said union head Tibor Kaczor. He claimed that the average salary raise of 7.5 percent fails to offset even half of the current inflation rate and in practice means that real salaries drop by 7.9 percent. In his reply, Slovnaft spokesperson Anton Molnar pointed out that the current collective contract will stay in effect until March 31, 2024, and that Slovnaft holds talks on salaries and bonuses with trade unions on an annual basis. "The average salary in Slovnaft stood at €2,973 monthly, without the management salaries, whereas the Slovak average monthly salary equalled €1,304 in 2022," said the spokesperson.
