Some of the buildings in Banska Stiavnica damaged in a fire over the weekend have been covered by sheeting in order to prevent an even worse devastation that might be caused by adverse weather, particularly rain. "The works are under the remit of the Environment Ministry and the Slovak Mining Museum," stated Banska Bystrica Firefighters Corps spokesperson Julia Zelenakova, adding that firefighter squads are extending cooperation to restorers. The fire broke out on Saturday, March 18 in one of the historical buildings of Banska Stiavnica's old town centre and spread quickly, leaving seven buildings damaged. Dozens of both professional and volunteer firefighters were called out to tackle the flames. The police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
