Slovakia calls on Russia to take control of Ukraine rebels

The latest evidence-based information presented on Sunday by the US Secretary of State John Kerry indicated that separatists in the south-east of Ukraine were responsible for the shooting down of the civilian Malaysia Airlines jet on the July 17.

Subsequently, the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its call for an impartial and objective international investigation of the tragedy and will demand the bringing of the perpetrators to justice. “We request the provision of prompt and unrestricted access for investigators and OSCE observers to the site of the crash. It is necessary to ensure the immediate and decent treatment of the human remains and personal belongings of the victims, as well as to secure evidence on the crash site for the investigation of the disaster. We call on the Russian Federation to exert its influence over the separatists in order to facilitate the credible investigation of this tragedy, but also to calm and stabilise the overall situation in south-eastern Ukraine. The crisis in Ukraine can only be sustainably solved by political means and dialogue”, reads a statement by Ministry, released today (Monday, July 21). The situation will be assessed at the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) meeting on Tuesday (July 22) in Brussels.
