More than 41,000 graduates will take the written maturita exam starting Tuesday. By 17 March, they will test their knowledge of Slovak language and literature, foreign language, mathematics and, in the case of pupils of Hungarian and Ukrainian nationality, their native language. More than 2 400 pupils with disabilities are among the total number of graduates. The week of written exams will start on Tuesday with a test and essay paper in Slovak language and literature, which will be written by more than 37 000 pupils. "Almost 1 600 peers from secondary schools with Hungarian as the language of instruction will be graduating from Hungarian language and literature," said the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic. On Wednesday, 15 March, all students will write a test and an essay in their chosen compulsory foreign language at B1 or B2 level. For pupils of bilingual secondary schools that do not have an international agreement, a test and essay in the second language of instruction at C1 level is compulsory. German (1 068 pupils) and Russian (443 pupils), followed in order of interest by French (14 pupils), Spanish (4 pupils) and Italian (1 pupil). On Thursday 16 March, more than 5 100 matriculants who have chosen mathematics will write an external mathematics test. "Approximately 12.5 per cent of the total number of matriculating pupils have chosen mathematics as an elective or optional subject," the Education Ministry said. On Friday 17 March students will take a test and essay in Slovak language and literature and in Ukrainian language and literature for pupils of schools of national minorities. "Approximately 1 600 pupils will graduate in Slovak language and literature and 28 pupils will graduate in Ukrainian language and literature," the Education Ministry said.
