New Czech President Pavel pays first foreign visit to Slovakia

New Czech President Petr Pavel chose to pay his first foreign visit to Slovakia, thus continuing the long-standing mutual tradition among heads of both states. On his two-day official visit he is scheduled to meet his Slovak counterpart Zuzana Čaputová, interim PM Eduard Heger, and Speaker of Parliament Boris Kollár. Pavel should also visit numerous memorial places in Bratislava – honouring the memories of the founders of the first Czechoslovak Republic, T.G. Masaryk and M.R. Štefánik, murdered journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová as well as the victims of the terrorist attack on Zámocká street.

Retired army general Petr Pavel was sworn in last week, thereby becoming the fourth president of the independent Czech Republic.
