The visit of the Dutch royal couple, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, is taking place symbolically on the 30th anniversary of the setting up of diplomatic relations between our countries, praised Slovak President Zuzana Caputova in a statement following their talks on Tuesday.
The Slovak head of state highlighted the common values and the cooperation of the countries in various areas, adding that she sees room for its deepening. The King stated that the visit underlines the friendship between Slovakia and the Netherlands. According to him, Slovakia has developed into a self-confident country with strong connections to Europe.
"Relations are very friendly not only on a political level, but also on a human level," said Caputova, pointing to Slovaks living in the Netherlands. She also noted that the Netherlands is one of the largest investors in Slovakia, as well as an export market for many Slovak entrepreneurs.
The President sees room for expanding cooperation, for example, in the field of health and economy. According to her, the business forum, which she is set to open on Wednesday (March 8) together with the king, will be an opportunity to exchange experience and establish cooperation, especially in the field of green transition. "This is one of the largest events of its kind because more than 122 entrepreneurs from both countries accepted the invitation," stressed the President, announcing the signing of a memorandum on cooperation between hospitals and institutions that deal with paediatric oncology.
King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands appreciated the opportunity to visit Slovakia, emphasising the need for the countries' cohesion at a time of high international tension. According to him, free democratic countries must not allow intimidation and violence.
The King also stressed the need for a critical look at one's own countries, pointing out, for example, the issue of violence against journalists or expressions of hatred against minorities. He mentioned common concerns but also the prospect of common solutions. He's also open to cooperation on the way to a more sustainable future. The King is looking forward not only to visiting Bratislava but also to the beauty of Slovak nature in the Tatra Mountains. (TASR)
