Interim Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad left for Stockholm on Tuesday, where he is scheduled to take part in the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in the defence format over the next two days, the ministry spokesperson Martina Kakascikova has told TASR.
"The greatest emphasis during the meeting will be put on the EU's support for Ukraine, with Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov personally participating in the talks. With regard to his participation in the meeting, the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine (EUMAM) will be on the agenda of the talks as well," said Kakascikova.
Nad noted that Slovakia has been actively involved in the training of Ukrainian soldiers since last year in order to improve their capabilities that they will use in defence of their country. "The training is chiefly focused on the preparation of small tactical units, but also medical capabilities and artillery - all in line with the requirements of Ukraine," he said. The minister stressed that the training is taking place on Slovak territory, with the activity being approved by the government.
The agenda of the talks should also include the settings of the European Peace facility, through which refunds are provided to countries helping Ukraine. The EU defence ministers will also talk about the initiative of joint procurement of 155 mm artillery ammunition both for the needs of Ukraine and replenishment of EU member countries' stocks. (TASR)
