V4 countries want to act together within the EU on illegal migration

The V4 (Visegrad Four) countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) want to act together in the dialogue with the European Commission on illegal migration. Interim Interior Minister Roman Mikulec told TASR on Monday after a meeting of leading representatives of the interior ministries of the V4 countries at the castle in Pezinok (Bratislava region), adding that they agreed that the most effective measure is the protection of the external Schengen border. The meeting was also attended by Hungarian Interior Minister Sandor Pinter, Polish Interior Ministry State Secretary Bartosz Grodecki and Czech Deputy Interior Minister Radek Kana. "Many migrants who come here illegally don't want to stay in the territory of the V4 countries but want to continue to Western countries, and we need to talk with these countries even more actively and openly so that they address the situation with us in a way that we can handle it," said Mikulec, stressing that clear answers to the V4 proposals are needed from the European Commission. "For example, what should we do with migrants who come from countries like Syria or Afghanistan, who are non-returnable according to the current European rules, the Schengen Code and the return directive," he stated.
