Museum of Slovak Emigration to North America to be opened soon

The construction of a museum of Slovak emigration to North America is slated to be completed by May 6, TASR was told by ministry spokesperson Martina Kakascikova on Monday. "Whether in the pre-WW1 period, between the world wars, but also in the post-WW2 era, hundreds of thousands of Slovaks left our region and emigrated to North America. Many have returned home and many have stayed there," interim Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad (OLaNO) declared during his visit Monday to the museum-to-be. The ministry repeatedly lent support to the museum project named Kasigarda, to the overall tune of €40,000. Aside from other topics, the project is also focused on the presentation of ethnic Slovaks living in America, who served as members of the US military in the period from WW1 until Operation Desert Storm.
