Without austerity measures, Slovakia's debt will increase significantly

If the government does not take consolidation measures, Slovakia's net debt will be almost €79 billion in 2026, which will be just below 57% of gross domestic product (GDP). This represents a significant increase from last year, when net public debt reached €51.6 billion, or 48% of GDP. "The high level of deficits, which exceeds the contribution of the high growth rate of nominal GDP (due to inflation), is the main contributor to the continuous increase in debt as a proportion of GDP," the Fiscal Responsibility Council said in their latest report.
