Construction of cycle bridge Dobrohost - Dunakiliti starts

The construction of a new cycle bridge between the Slovak village of Dobrohost, western Slovakia, and the Hungarian village of Dunakiliti has been launched. The budget approved is over €10.4 million (ex-VAT), state-run Vodohospodarska Vystavba (Water Management Construction - VVP) company announced. The bridge will serve pedestrians, cyclists, as well as rescue forces and maintenance vehicles. It will connect Maly Zitny ostrov (Little Rye Island) in Slovakia and Szigetkoz on the Hungarian side and will become part of the river cycle route EuroVelo 6. Slovakia will thus join this European cycle route.

The cycle bridge should be open in the spring of 2024. The bridge over the border river will be almost 500 metres-long, with half of it going directly over the water. The funding of the bridge's construction has been divided between Slovakia and Hungary at a ratio of 50:50. More than €4.19 million (85 percent) of the sum to be covered by the Slovak side will be financed from the European Regional Development Fund and 5 percent from Slovakia's state budget. The remaining sum will be paid by the VV company.
