Security Council addresses decommissioned MiG-29s

The Security Council on Wednesday discussed Slovakia's MiG-29 fighters, but, according to interim Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad (OLaNO), no decision was taken in regards to the potential donation of the aircraft to Ukraine. The meeting was only a matter of providing information. Both the minister and Chief of General Staff Daniel Zmeko are convinced that Slovakia no longer has any use for them as far as defence is concerned. When addressing the authority to make a decision, Minister Nad said that he is convinced the interim Government has the authority. "This is a continuation of military assistance to Ukraine with decommissioned equipment, and it isn't a major foreign-policy issue," he opined. According to President Zuzana Caputova, it could be the right move to allow Parliament to decide on Slovakia's potential donation of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. "This is one of the options because we are in a situation in which Parliament has taken away the government's legitimacy by voting no confidence in it and now the government has decided to ask Parliament to express its opinion, which would basically replace [the government's lost legitimacy] in a certain sense," opined Caputova.
