The Specialised Criminal Court sentenced Sheila Szmrekova to three years in a minimum-security jail over extremism and the making of dangerous threats on Wednesday. The verdict is not yet in effect, as the defendant has appealed against it. Sheila Sz. has received media attention with her internet videos, in which she made hateful statements against Muslims in 2017, tore pages out of the Quran, set them on fire and subsequently urinated on the book. During her trial, Sheila claimed she was innocent. She did not deny what she did, yet did not see her actions as criminal.
