The extraordinary session on snap elections and MiG-29 fighter jets failed to open

Parliament failed to open an extraordinary session for the fourth time on the early elections in June and the donation of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. Parliament did not have a quorum at the start of the sitting, with only 57 deputies present. Parliamentary Vice-chair Peter Pcolinsky terminated the session and deferred the items on the agenda to the regular session due to start on March 14. The session was initiated by the Smer-SD party, which wants the election to take place no later than in June. Originally, the session was supposed to take place on Monday, but MPs failed to meet the quorum on that day as well. The same scenario was repeated earlier on Tuesday morning. At the same time, Smer -SD sought to adopt a resolution expressing Parliament's disapproval of a potential donation of MiG-29s to Kiev at the special session. According to the party, the interim government in power has been toppled and therefore has no authority to decide on major domestic and foreign policy issues.
