A Special Prosecutor's Office prosecutor pressed charges of corruption against the former head of the Slovenská národná strana or Slovak National Party (SNS) and former Zilina mayor Jan Slota, with the case to be tried by the Specialised Criminal Court. In March 2022, a National Criminal Agency (NAKA) investigator launched prosecution of Jan Slota over him influencing decisions of the Zilina Regional Court back in 2018. Later, he faced additional charges of corruption. In 2022, the investigator proposed taking Jan Slota into custody. The Specialised Criminal Court decided otherwise, however, and replaced custody with supervision by a probation official. The Supreme Court later made Jan Slota's restrictions more stringent by making the defendant wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.
