Modernisation of railway to Austrian and Czech borders

The state wants to finance the reconstruction and modernisation of the railway track from Bratislava's borough of Devinska Nova Ves to the borders with Austria and the Czech Republic through a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). It should amount to €194 million, according to a proposal submitted by the Finance Ministry for interdepartmental review. However, the total cost of the project is estimated at €890 million. The project includes the modernisation and reconstruction of the railway network in line with the latest technological, operational and safety requirements. After the project's implementation, the projected track speed should be up to 200 kilometres/hour. In addition to the EIB loan, the project should be covered from EU funds (€671 million) and other resources (€25 million).
