Kosice Regional Governor won't be prosecuted in custody

The Pezinok-based Specialised Criminal Court (STS) on Sunday evening ruled that Kosice regional governor Rastislav T. won't be prosecuted in custody, while another man detained as part of an operation codenamed Valentine, Richard R., will remain behind bars, STS spokesperson Katarina Kudjakova has told TASR.
The ruling isn't yet valid. Both a prosecutor and Richard R. have lodged appeals against it that will now be decided by the Supreme Court.
"A pre-trial STS Judge decided to remand in custody Richard R., who has been charged with the ongoing crime of machinations in public procurement and public auctions. The reason is the concern that he might influence witnesses," stated Kudjakova. The judge accepted neither his written promise, nor bail of €20,000 offered by his wife.
The National Crime Agency (NAKA) carried out raids in eastern Slovakia last Friday (February 17) as part of Operation Valentine, which is aimed at documenting economic crime. Seven people were detained as part of the operation, including Richard R. and Rastislav T.
Rastislav T. in the past faced criticism for a purchase of non-contact thermometers and road-maintenance lorries, which were allegedly overpriced. He denied any wrongdoing. (TASR)
