President praises rescuers helping in Turkey

President Zuzana Caputova highlighted the professionalism of the Slovak rescuers who intervened in Turkey after a devastating earthquake. "Many will remember the words of one of you that he had never experienced such horror," she said on Thursday at the Presidential Palace where she received the rescuers. Caputova said she was convinced that rescuers’ experience will also help our country better manage crisis situations caused both by nature and man. On Sunday (February 12), after returning from Turkey, Commander of the rescuers Igor Ziak said that when rescuing survivors in Turkey, it was impossible to rely on any rehearsed operational and methodological procedures. According to him, everything had to be done with absolute improvisation and absolute risk to life. During the mission, the Slovak rescue team managed to find in the ruins 12 people alive. Slovakia sent ten firefighters and five mountain rescuers to Turkey last week.
