Election in June in case of caretaker government

On Friday, the SaS chief Richard Sulik stated that a potential June date for the snap general election is in the hands of President Zuzana Caputova. As he added, if she appoints a caretaker government, practically the whole of parliament, including SaS, will support a June date. On Thursday, President stated that the current domestic political situation is unbearable for the country. She called for an earlier snap election term than the one set for September.

The extraordinary parliamentary session regarding an earlier date for a snap election was moved to Friday (February 17). It should have started after the vote at 11 a.m. as the House did not have a quorum on Thursday afternoon. Parliamentary Chair Boris Kollar stated that on Friday they will vote on all points of the regular meeting that will be discussed by then. The rest should be moved to the next regular meeting starting in March. The extraordinary meeting on the election date was initiated by the opposition Smer-SD party, which proposed that the early election should be held on June 24 and not at the end of September.
