Annual inflation in Slovakia amounted to 15.2 percent in January, with consumer prices of goods and services growing by 2.6 percent in monthly terms, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday. Monthly inflation was mainly fuelled by 3.9-percent growth in prices of housing (including energy), which mirrored adjustments in regulated energy prices. Gas prices grew by 11.9 percent, while heating prices were 13.6 percent higher than in December 2022. Meanwhile, electricity prices only grew by 2.5 percent. January's annual inflation rate of 15.2 percent continued the run of 22-year highs. It can mainly be ascribed to two segments: housing (including energy) and food and beverages. These two components make up almost 50 percent of the spending of Slovak households.
