Thirty years ago on February 8, Slovakia introduced its own currency - the Slovak crown. Until that happened, Czechoslovak banknotes in circulation were marked with Slovak stamps. Academic painter Jozef Bubák gave Slovak banknotes an artistic face. The most important personalities of Slovak history were depicted on the banknotes, such as Pribina, Anton Bernolák, Ľudovít Štúr and General Štefánik. Slovak koruna was used until the end of 2008. From January 1, 2009, Slovaks started paying in euros. (RTVS)
