The public expenditure limit has been set to €41.321 billion this year, €44.309 billion in 2024 and €45.621 billion in 2025, with Parliament approving the limits calculated by the Budgetary Responsibility Council on Wednesday. The limits come into effect on the day of their passing. An exception is in place for this year, though, as a general escape clause has been activated in line with European directives. This year's budget, however, will not exceed the caps.Compliance with the limits will pose a problem in the following years, though, when one-time and special subsidy measures are taken into account. "In order to meet them (the limits), it will be necessary to pass additional measures to the tune of €360 million in 2024 and €926 million in 2025," stated Budgetary Responsibility Council chair Ján Tóth.
