At the initiative of the Slovak Environment Ministry, Environment Ministers from 12 EU countries called on the European Commission to adopt measures aimed to improve the protection of the grey wolf. The list of countries includes: Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Spain.
Interim Slovak Environment Minister Ján Budaj hopes that the European Commission will continue the same responsible approach to the protection of endangered species as it has in the past. The grey wolf (Canis lupus) is a canine species protected in Slovakia. Its hunting was definitively ended in 2021.
