Survey: Fewer Slovak households had savings in 2022 than year before

Less than 62 percent of Slovak households saved up for unexpected expenditures or a worsening of their economic situation in 2022, indicates a survey carried out by Stem/Mark agency for Kruk Czech and Slovak Republic. It also indicated that in 2020 the figure was higher by 5 percentage points.

Approximately one in four households (26 percent) has savings equaling at least its monthly income, which is higher than a year ago, when the figure was only 22 percent. The proportion of households with savings equaling three months of income decreased slightly from 30 percent to 28 percent.

The proportion of Slovaks with savings of between three to six months of income rose from 19 percent to 22 percent. Almost 15 percent of households could get by on their savings for a year, and one in ten households could do so for a year or more. According to the company, the overall proportion of households with savings decreased slightly, although the survey recorded an increase in the proportion of households with at least a short-term financial reserve.
