Financial administration recovered record sum last year

Financial Administration managed to exceed its target regarding the recovery of tax arrears last year. According to data published on the institution's OpenData website, tax bailiffs brought a record sum of €305.9 million into the state budget in 2022.
"Financial Administration achieved this result thanks to a properly set recovery strategy. Tax bailiffs focused on debtors with higher outstanding taxes, and where there were concerns that it might be impossible to collect unpaid tax, they also used options provided by law to secure it," said Financial Administration's spokesman Martina Rybanska. According to her, the good result can also be ascribed to the effective use of analytical tools and supporting IT applications, high-quality methodical support, but especially the high level of commitment among tax bailiffs themselves.
Tax bailiffs, along with tax inspectors, continued to combat high-risk tax entities and tax evasion last year. "Thanks to international enforcement, those who wanted to avoid paying taxes in particular found out that the powers of tax bailiffs don't end at the Slovakia's borders. The importance of international cooperation in enforcing the payment of tax arrears was reconfirmed in 2022, bringing in more than €4.7 million into Slovakia's state budget," said Rybanska. (TASR)
